SW Agric stakeholders lament food backwardness

Major agricultural stakeholders from Southwest zone have described the region being backward in food production despite endowed human and other resources availability.

This observation was made at the first maiden meeting of the major stakeholders from the government and farmers in the region organized by the SW zonal coordinator Prince Segun Dasaolu in collaboration with Otunba Emiola Gabriel Ogunsanya a renowned farmer where proactive resolutions are taken to ensure commercial food production in the zone.

In a statement made available by Prince Dasaolu after the meeting held last week Tuesday, the following were suggested.

1. that we should generate data  along the food value chains.

2. that we should reactivate   our cooperative structures.

3. that the farmers' summit should be organized without delay .

4.  that state coordinators should be appointed immediately.

5.  that the south west should key into the dry season farming program of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS).

Present at the meeting in the statement is the FMAFS representative, Engr. S. Atoyebi.
