New Sub-Comm Chairman on crops performs first outing at NACGRAB



The new chairman, Sub Committee on Naming, Registration and Release of Crop Varieties (NVRC), Prof. Shehu Ado yesterday chaired the technical session on the new crops submission for approval at National Centre for Genetic Resources And Biotechnology (NAGRAB)  Ibadan. 

This is the first official outing of Prof. Shehu Ado since his appointment as the chairman, technical sub- committee on crops varietal release by the approval of the Federal Government.

The letter of appointment dated 3rd August 2023 was signed by the Director General ( DG) National Biotechnology of Development Agency, Prof. Abudullahi Mustapha according to the decree 33 of 1989 amended as Act of Parliament 2016.

Prof. Ado will on Thursday January 11, 2024 presented to the national committee on varietal release new improved crop varieties for commercial release and registration for farmers' use.

Among the new improved crops to be recommended for national approval for release are varieties of transgenic, hybrid and pro vitamins Maize, Pepper, Rice, Yam, hybrid sorghum, castor and oat.

Prof. Ado before his new appointment was once the Executive Director ( ED), Institute for Agriculture Research ( IAR) Samaru, Zaria between August 2004 to October 10, 2008 and former Vice Chancellor, Al- Qalam University, Katsina.
