Niger State Attracts Over $1 Billion in Agric Mechanization and Technology

Niger State Governor,  Mohammed Umaru Bago announced that the state has secured more than $1 billion investment for agricultural mechanisation and  technology within the first six months of his administration. Governor Bago revealed this during a courtesy visit to the two Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security in Abuja last week Friday.

Emphasizing Niger State's agricultural potentials, Governor Bago stated that his state, with its vast arable land, water resources, and dams has positioned itself as a pilot state for agricultural development in Nigeria while he reiterated his commitment to agricultural production, animal husbandry, and aquaculture saying all these are potentials for creating employment, foreign exchange earning and self-sufficiency in food security.

Governor Bago shared his plans for dry season farming, stating that Niger State is prepared to cultivate one million hectares, doubling the Federal Government's ambition of 500,000 hectares as he emphasized significant investments in irrigation, incorporating renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security acknowledged Niger State's immense landmass, abundant water resources, and extensive arable land as he stressed the need to transform these potentials into sustainable reality that aligned with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for food security.

Sen. Kyari called for strong partnerships between the FG and State, emphasizing that collaboration would yield positive results in achieving food security.
