The Minister of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS), Sen. Abubakar Kyari has told the Agric research council to embark on implementing its amendment Act in order to ensure more efficient transfer of improved technologies to farmers towards galvanized food system sustainability.
The Minister who was represented by his state counterpard Sen. Sabi Abdullahi posited that the implementation of the 2021 amendment Act of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria ( ARCN) would mitigate challenges being confronted in the management and transfer of research products to farmers for enhanced food security.
He emphasized how ARCN is very strategic to addressing food production challenges with its amended act of 2021 saying the council held the key to transforming the nation economy through transfer the transfer of available technologies into commercial use in food productivity system.
He stressed the importance of ARCN in the food system productivity saying that the need for practical training and vocational skill acquisition, and encouraging other institutions to focus on research innovations in line with government initiatives on food security must be prioritised.
Minister emphasized on the need for ARCN reform towards better service delivery in line to global standards.
In response, ARCN's Executive Secretary, Prof. Garba Sharubutu concorded with the minister's position on well repositioning of the council with other research Institutes towards demand driven improved technology availability to farmers
Sharubutu however highlighted the council's progress in implementing the 2021 amended agricultural research law, focusing on performance-based.
