A new Permanent Secretary ( PS) Mr. Temitope Peter Fashedemi has last week Wednesday assumed office at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food security ( FMAFS), just as the agro dealers are advised to collaborate to ensure strengthening food security through certified input products to farmers.
In a press release made available to media, it was stated that a brief handover ceremony was held at the ministry' s conference room for the new PS Mr. Temitope Fashedemi on 17th January , 2024.
The statement added that the new PS promised to drive the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President food security towards a sustainable nutritional food system and growth in the economy.
Mr. Temitope Fashedemi is succeeding Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe who was the immediate past PS that retired from the ministry last year December.
In the same vein, the Minister of Agric, Sen. Abubakar kyari in his office last week Thursday has asked the agro dealers in the country to ensure selling of only approved and certified inputs to farmers, thereby asking them to come up with proactive policy to check fake and adulterations in the system.
The press statement released in this regards by the ministry has the president of Nigeria Agro Input Dealers Association ( NAIDS) Alhaji Kabir Umar Fara saying that farmers were sensitized to always buy their inputs from designated centres to avoid buying fake products adding that high cost of inputs mostly necessitated wrong doing of many agro dealers.
Fara emphasized on the arrest of anybody who didn't possess a sale permit from the Ministry saying this was the root of rampard uncertified and unregistered agro inputs in circulation.
