Hybrid varieties is panacea to food security

IAR
Hybrid varieties is panacea to food security especially in the face of climate change with crops that have resilience to heat stress and ability to increase yield for commercial production in a competitive way.

IAR, Samaru has been able according to his ED, Prof. I.U ABUBAKAR to release two cow pea (beans) varieties that are striga, alectra and drought tolerant with yield of two tons per hectare.

Also six maize varieties which are hybrid with yield of 9.7 tons. This varieties are boosted with Vitamin A to improve human nutrition as SAMMAZ 45 is open pollinated, aflotoxin resistant with 6.2ton per hectare yield across ecologies.

All these new improved seeds inputs if properly extented through our extension officers would assist commercial production of farmers for more economic earnings.
