Sokoto Sate Government has inaugurated a technical committee to oversee the proposed establishment of a ferlizer plant by Prime Gold Fertilizer and Chemical Company, an indigenous company based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.


The inauguration took place on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Bashir Garba, who represented the governor. According to him, the project is important t the government and will ensure everything works well.

The technical committee is said to study and appraise the proposal sent by Prime Gold Fertiliser Company towards ascertaining its credibility and feasibility while securing a fair deal for the state government under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The committee will also identify a suitable location for the setting of the proposed company, as well as determining the scope and equity participation of the Sokoto state government” the SSG said in a statement signed by Tambuwal Spokesman, Imam Imam.

The committee, which has four weeks within which to submit its report, is headed by the state commissioner of solid minerals and natural resources development, Hon Bello Goronyo.

Other members include the commissioner of commerce, Aminu Bello Sokoto, DG of the state Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Sani Musa, representative of the state ministries of agriculture and justice, as well as representative of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC).
It will be recalled that AgroNigeria reported the proposed establishment of the fertilizer plant.

The first phase of the plant will produce 100,000 metric tones of fertilizer and will provide direct job opportunities to 5000 persons in addition to boosting the socio-economic activities of the state.
