Multi-Net Group, Nigeria has hinted its plan to build in Nigeria a ‘world-class’ poultry farm at a cost of N7bn.

This was made known to pressmen in Abuja by the Chairman of the company, Dr. Uzoma Obiyo.
He said the company is also taking the full value chain of animal husbandry, which include breeding of animals, processing, up to abattoir development, saying the project is currently on board.

“We have an interest in developing world class poultry in Nigeria. It is very expensive to build world class poultry.

“After the visibility reports, Abuja, Niger and Imo States have been choosing as pilot states and about N7 billion will be needed to put it in place.”

Obiyo also revealed that the fourteen breeding centres in the country have been abandoned according to the company’s needs assessment carried out recently.

“We know that the federal government has fourteen breeding centres in Nigeria. These breeding centres are abandoned, you can imagine how government own properties and they are under-utilized because they are unable to get private business and investment to drive them.

“And this is what the government of the day ought to be doing, offload to entrepreneurs who are willing to do business. You can’t continue to hold on to properties and investment and allow them to lay shallow.

“These breeding centres have been idle over the years and we have gone round to see, some of them are sitting on over 500,000 hectares of land with dilapidated properties, we can’t find any animal in them,” Obiyo noted.
