Agric Development: Ruling Party emphasises need for infrastructure

The All Progressive Congress ( APC) chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has emphasized that infrastructural provision will enhance agricultural development in Nigeria beyond its shores.

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who was speaking at the 2nd Asiwaju Scorecard yesterday in Abuja, said the Federal Government's infrastructure agenda was a deliberate strategy to position Nigeria's economy towards more earnings and job creation in agricultural sector.

Yilwatda pointed out that the proposed coastal highway and railway networks would also connect ports with industrial centres and Nigeria's inland, creating integrated transport corridors for freight, passengers and commercial activities towards effective markets.

Professor Yilwatda encouraged Nigerian entrepreneurs to prepare for emerging opportunities in logistics, warehousing, agriculture, manufacturing, freight transportation, importation and exportation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, who was represented by the Director of Mechanisation, Engr. Sule Ovajimoh Majeed, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to transforming agriculture into a major driver of food security, employment, economic growth and national stability.

The Minister stressed that agriculture remains closely connected to national security and social stability, saying that the federal government's agricultural transformation agenda is focused on increasing food production, improving farmers' incomes and creating opportunities across the sector's value chain.

Agric Minister stressed that mechanisation remains a major priority, with the FG pursuing investments in tractors and modern agricultural equipment to increase productivity.
