AFAN charges FG on timely inputs delivery

 

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria ( AFAN) has asked the Federal Government ( FG) to improve on its inputs delivery strategy to ensure timeliness for effective planting for food security.

AFAN president, Hon. Muhammed Mogaji Gettado made this call yesterday during the 2nd Asiwaju scorecard program held in Abuja towards the performance assessment of the sector in the last four years.

The farmers' president  directed  his observations to the gathering audience at the Shehu Yar'dua centre that the FG must improve on timelines delivery of agricultural inputs and mechanization to reduce drudgery for increased food production.

According to him, agricultural inputs must reach farmers at the right time during the appropriate farming season.“Inputs need to come at the time farmers need them and not after the farming season"

The president stressed that the timing of agricultural interventions is critical, as delayed delivery of essential inputs such as fertiliser, seeds and other farming materials can reduce productivity and undermine the efforts of farmers.

“One other major problem facing Nigeria farmers today is access to markets" Gettado said, emphasising the need for stronger systems to connect farmers directly with buyers, processors and consumers.

He therefore called for policies and interventions that would support farmers while ensuring that Nigerians have access to affordable food.

Gettado also emphasized the rising costs of agricultural production, pointing out that government effort must be delibrate towards alleviating this critical challenge for farmers.

The AFAN president acknowledged ongoing efforts by the FG to improve the sector, saying farmers were following government interventions aimed at boosting food productivity with keen interest.

He called for closer collaboration between the government, farmers' associations and other stakeholders to address challenges affecting agricultural production and marketing.
