The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has organized an interactive session on Women in Export, which will enable the setting up of national strategies and policies that would enable women achieve their potentials in international trade.


This was in an interactive session which held in Lagos with the theme “Enhancing the Survival of Women Owned Businesses in non-oil sector focuses on having detailed information directly from women as their businesses are being affected due to certain existing policies.

While speaking, the Deputy Director, Women in Export Development Program, NEPC, Mrs Evelyn Obidike said the interactive session was essential as it is a way to get empirical findings as regards the challenges women are facing in their businesses. She added that the bottlenecks identified will be reviewed by NEPC.

The Executive Director NEPC, Mr Segun Awolowo who was duly represented by his Technical Advisor on Women in Export, Maureen Ideozu said SMEs are the bedrock of the economy, which women own a larger percentage.

She noted that it is high time women joined their counterparts in the international market as a way of expanding their horizons. She ceased the opportunity to invite them to the women’s exhibition in Turkey organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC) as a way of being recognized in the international market.

In her welcome address, the 1st Deputy National President, NACCIMA, Iyalode Alaba Lawanson appreciated NEPC for organizing the program, adding that she believes participants would utilize the interactive session for their utmost benefits. She noted that NEPC should always involve bodies like Nigeria Custom, Bank of Industry and NAFDAC who have major roles to play in exportation when next an interactive session would be conducted.

The need to diversify into the Agricultural sector which the strength of the Nigerian economy lies was discussed, and it was evident that most entrepreneurs are going into agriculture because most exportable commodities are agricultural products.
