As part of humanitarian support to Nigeria, the government of Thailand has donated rice valued approximately at $20,000 to address food related challenges.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro.
Doro made the disclosure while speaking on Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen humanitarian assistance and support to vulnerable Nigerians amid persistent food-price pressures.
According to Minister, the gesture from Thailand underscores the importance of international cooperation in responding to humanitarian and food-security challenges, adding that the donation come at a time when food prices remain a major concern for Nigerian households, with inflation continuing to put pressure on families and low-income communities.
The minister’s disclosure also highlights the role of international partnerships in supporting Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions, particularly as the government works to reach vulnerable populations affected by economic hardship and food insecurity.
Thailand has historically been an important player in the global rice industry, and its gesture towards Nigeria comes amid broader discussions around food production, food security and the need to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic agricultural capacity.
The donation valued at about $20,000, is expected to provide immediate assistance to beneficiaries while also reinforcing the need for longer-term solutions to Nigeria’s food-security challenges.
Doro said humanitarian interventions must go hand in hand with sustainable measures that enable Nigerians to access affordable food and improve their livelihoods.
