The Federal Government ( FG) is working out a plan to establish an agricultural mechanization plant that will be capable of producing 2,000 to 4,000 tractors in Nigeria.
This was contained in a press statement made available by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) and signed by the head of Information, Mr. Ezeaja Ikemefuna to journalists.
The statement was issued based on the outcome of the high power national policy dialogue on agricultural mechanization that was meant to critically examine tractorization towards increasing local productivity of tractors in Nigeria with the involvement of the youth and women.
The Minister of Agriculture, Abubarka Kyari in the press statement hammered on the need to establish a mega tractor assembly that will be capable of producing between 2000-4000 tractors annually just as he invited investors to harness the opportunity in the commercialization of the sub sector towards food security.
The Minister in the statement said that "Nigeria is open for investment in agricultural mechanization. We are not seeking capital merely to purchase machines. We are seeking partners to build an enduring agricultural technology and service ecosystem"
