Enugu State Government said on Monday that it had commenced the training of youths in modern animal husbandry.

The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Michael Eneh, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the youths would specialise on sheep, goat and fish farming.

“We are training them in batches, and we have trained 56 youths in fish farming technology through a USA-based company – TMD Synergy Company.

“Also, 74 youths have been trained on new fish feeding ingredients and methods, which was put together in conjunction with Coppers Fish Feed Manufacturers,’’ he said.

The commissioner said that the state had strategically positioned itself to benefit from the Federal Government’s sheep and goat production value chain.

He stressed that a total number of 42 sheep and goat co-operative farming groups had been earmarked to benefit from the Federal Government sheep and goat production value chain programme.

NAN reports that the state government poultry production sector generates N1.48 billion annually.
