Sultan Wants FG To Review Ban On Rice Importation

Worried by the recent skyrocketing prices of food stuff in the Nigerian market lately, the Sultan of Sokoto and president-general, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSICA), has called on the federal government to rescind the ban on rice importation.


The sultan, who made the appeal when the controller general of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Ali, paid him a courtesy visit, added that the present government came to power on the goodwill of the common man and that goodwill should be maintained.

The respected monarch added that Nigerians should continue to pray for peace and stability even as he stressed that all leaders’ priority is to serve their subjects right.

“The sultan’s palace is a home for all, be you a Christian, Buddhist, Jewish or Muslim. All leaders have one goal and that is to serve our creator through serving the people. As traditional leaders, we advise government, to the best of our ability, to work for the interest of the our people though we don’t implement policies,” he said.

While reminding the federal government on how Nigerians are suffering, especially as it relates to the ban on importation of rice through the land boarder, the sultan lamented that change does not have to be until the people are dead.
 
“There has been a lot of cries and comments, all on the pains the government is causing the people.Policies are meant to strengthen governance, but policies sometimes could be revisited when  complains are becoming more. We continue to tell the common man to be patient that change is not easy, but the change does not have to come when people are dying of hunger. Let’s try to make amends on the closing of land boarders and try to get it right,” he urged.
