The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that with the coming of modern biotechnology, Nigeria no longer has excuse for having food shortage.

Onu made the remark at a 2-day workshop on agricultural biotechnology and biosafety, organized by the National Biotechnology Development Agency in collaboration with the National Bio-safety Management Agency in Abuja

“Nigeria is blessed with enormous natural resources that no Nigerians should be allowed to go hungry. Biotechnology has tremendous potentials to help us achieve food security and also protect our health and environment,” he said.

Mr Rufus Ebegba, Director General, National Bio-safety Management Agency, said the adoption of safe biotechnology was an alternative tool for diversification of the Nigerian economy.
