Group advocate youths mobilisation for agricultural opportunities

Informal Workers Association of Nigeria
The Federation of Informal Workers Association of Nigeria (FIWON), an NGO, has called for the mobilisation of youths to develop agricultural potentials in Osun state.

The State Coordinator of the group, Mr Olayinka Ibrahim, made the call in Osogbo ,he said youths should be encouraged to go into farming especially as the nation is passing through some economic difficulties.

``The agricultural opportunities will help to create more jobs and put smiles on faces of youths instead of waiting for white-collar jobs,’’ he said.

Ibrahim suggested some partnership with farm specialists with the state government to ensure participation of youths to enhance food production.

Dr Olofin Bamidele, the Head of Academic, Osun Odua Farmers Academy, called on informal workers in the state to embrace opportunities that would better their living conditions.

Bamidele decried the increase in unemployment rate and the rampant cases of robbery and social vices due to idleness of most youths in the state.

He, however, advised the government to set up agro-industry and farm academy in the state to help train and retrain youths and farmers for agricultural exploit.
