The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe, has said that some of the key objectives of the Agriculture road-map includes increasing the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The minister who stated this in Abuja, yesterday, at the 2016 National Agricultural Show in Keffi, said that as envisioned by the president, and adequately reflected in the Roadmap, “the overarching goal is to build an agribusiness economy capable of meeting our domestic food security requirements, generating exports to broaden the national revenue case and supporting  sustainable income and job growth potential through wealth creation, promotion of entrepreneurial activities for fostering youth employment and enhancing national productivity.

“Under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, we have begun to translate the vision for the revival and transformation of the agriculture sector in Nigeria over the medium term (2016-2020) into a virile engine of growth and accelerated national development through the development of a roadmap for the sector.  The highlights of roadmap are the major thrust of this administration.”

The minister maintained that “within the envisaged period we intend to integrate the agriculture commodity chains into the broader supply chains as a stimulus for driving job growth, increasing the contribution of agriculture to wealth creation and enhancing the capacity of the country to earn foreign exchange from agricultural exports.
