Nigeria, Ireland partner to boost mining, construction, agric sectors

As the dwindling revenue from oil continue to takes its toll on Nigeria’s economy, governments’ efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investments, FDIs, into the non-oil sector is set to receive a boost as Nigeria and Ireland are set to partner in the area of mining, agriculture and construction.


The partnership will begin with the convening of the Ireland- Nigeria Investment Forum, slated for this Friday at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8. The event, which is to be hosted in partnership with the Embassy of Nigeria in Ireland and will feature promising sessions in the areas of Agriculture, Education, Health, Transportation, among others , will explore areas such as agriculture, construction and mining and health among others for the planned partnership between the two countries.

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who will deliver a Keynote address at the Investment Forum, is expected to lead a strong delegation from the Oyo State Bureau of Investment Promotion & Public Private Partnerships and make presentation on investment opportunities that abounds in the pace-setter state.

Renowned agricultural consultants, George Bagnall and Ian Morrice will attend the business meeting. Also, Greg O’Halon from World Trade Centre, Alan Davidson and Bob McCammon will be talking on fl ood solution in Ibadan while Thomas McGovern will be talking mining among numerous investors showcasing at the forum. These investors shall make presentations aimed at encouraging collaboration and investing millions of Euros in Oyo State. Transfer of technology, job creation and mass production of agricultural produce which could be exported to several countries of the World are the expected benefi ts to Oyo State.

The CEO of Courage GF Ireland, the organisers of the event, Mrs. Gbemisola Johnson, while speaking on the benefits of the investment forum said participants will be drawn from the business communities, government institutions and the private sectors of both countries in their drive to chart a new course in the areas of comparative advantage for mutual benefits.

 Johnson said the Charge de Affaire of the Embassy of Nigeria in Ireland, Mr. Olusola Iginla shall be representing the interest of the Nigerian government at the business meeting while the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Republic of Ireland shall be duly represented by Mr. David McGlinchey of the Bilateral Cooperation Unit, Dept of Foreign Affairs.
