Nigerians have been called upon to buy Made in Nigeria products so as to increase the country’s earnings and boost job creation.
This call was made by the Minister of Industry, Trade &
Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah on Tuesday at the 3rd Annual mPAD &
Nigeria Manufacturing Expo held in Lagos.
The minister was represented by the Director of Trade,
Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment, Mrs Omolara
Awobokun.
Enelamah praised the timelines of the trade fair event
stating that ‘it was coming at a time when the nation is faced with the
urgent need to diversify the economy in the light of the dwindling price
of crude oil in the global market which has had a significant negative
impact on the Nigerian economy with persistence decline in the country’s
foreign reserves and the GDP since 2014.’
According to him, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led
administration has identified the manufacturing sector as one of the key
drivers of the nation’s economy and the diversification process.
He further noted that the strategic plan is to support
increase of goods and services, encourage more patronage of the locally
produced goods and services and export processed goods to earn the
nation more foreign exchange more than ever before. “We shall pursue
this objective with vigour and the determination to succeed,” Enelamah
promised.
While declaring the three-day trade fair open, President,
Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Dr Frank Jacobs noted that
the trade fair will ultimately bring a good result to jointly articulate
the real sector of the Nigerian economy.
