The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS), including all its agencies, has no funds to execute projects that will enhance sustainable food systems as envisaged when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the sector.
Several reliable sources have revealed to Foodfarmnews the funding challenges currently affecting the progress of food security projects in the ministry, as well as its agencies, during the transition from the rainy to the dry season.
Findings revealed that the usual support for farmers in rural areas is not forthcoming in terms of food security, thereby making them frustrated with their production.
" Agriculture is a time-sensitive industry. Without timely funding, we can’t reach farmers with essential inputs like chemicals, seeds, and support,” a source disclosed.
The source added that the Tinubu administration has yet to release any significant funds to agricultural agencies despite their importance to achieving food security.
" Farmers are angry. They feel left out of the 2025 season. If this continues, the rainy season, which ends around October, will pass without any meaningful intervention. That would be a huge loss for food production, said the source.
