President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that a six-month temporary ban be placed on the unprocessed shea nuts from being exported.
This directive was announced by his Vice, Sen. Galadima Shittima, during a meeting he summoned at the State House in Abuja last Tuesday, as the ban order takes immediate effect.
The VP said it was a temporary short-term ban aimed to see Nigeria earn more in the global market space of the produce from $65 million to $300 million with value addition.
Vice President Shittima described as unacceptable the present 1% earnings from just raw nuts out of the $6.5 billion in the global market, saying value addition would enhance its premium price.
The Minister of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS), Sen. Abubarka Kyari has promised that the president's order shall be filed for gazette at the Ministry of Justice.
