The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Samaru has given free seeds and agro chemicals to farmers in about ten adopted villages along with some schools closed by.
This was reported on Institute's page on Facebook yesterday at its premises as the Executive Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf reaffirmed their commitment to food security through impactful intervention to farmers and surrounding secondary schools.
Prof. Yusuf pointed out in the report that the input distribution was made possible by the Federal Government intervention as part of her commitment to food security.
The benefitting farmers were from the following villages – Jaja, Kwarbai, Dutsan Abba, Tudun Muntsira, Marwa, Hunkuyi, Samaru, Makarfi, Dakace, and Yakasai. Also students from the adopted schools included "GSS Samaru, Barewa College, GSS Bomo, and GSS Shika" also benefitted.
Each farmer went home with 4 bags of fertilizer, selective and non-selective herbicides, while farmer groups received two threshers each. The innovative deep placement fertilizer applicators were distributed to paired farmers to boost efficiency and reduce wastage.
Responding to the IAR's gesture, representative of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Muhammad Salisu Madaki expressed deep gratitude to the institute, pledging that farmers would put the inputs into judicious use towards food security just as the Head of the Adopted Villages, Dr. Hannatu O. Yusuf commended the leadership of IAR and the Faculty of Agriculture as he urged farmers to wisely use the inputs as a life changing intervention.
