In an effort to redeem the image of the country’s indigenous
products for acceptance in the international markets, the Nigerian Export
Promotion Council (NEPC) in collaboration with Centre for the promotion of
import from developing countries (CBI), Netherland, recently held a 3-day professional
training for 12 Small and Medium Enterprises on export development to the
European Union.
The event brought together 12 out of 47 companies that
applied for the training which centered on three key commodities, which are
cocoa, cashew, and sesame, as it is hoped that the acquired knowledge would be
transferred to their various communities and staff towards meeting the standard
required in commodity exportation to EU.

Farm New chats with the senior programme manager, East &
Southern Africa; Mr. Patrick Th.Gouka revealed that the relationship between
Nigeria and Netherland was established in order to assist African countries
having substandard export challenges to overcome through training.
One of the participants, who majored in cashew production,
Ifeanyi Chukwu Ugwu said that the training was timely towards enforcement of
quality of products to be exported to the EU saying it would encourage
participants in the area of acquiring information about global market
standard.
An exporter of sesame, Mr.M.B. Usman also told FoodFarm News that the training was indeed
an eye opener for most of the companies, noting that the training had given
cogent explanation to the issues of meeting up with the necessary standard as
regard EU markets.
