Minister of Agric insists on importing grass seeds

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) Chief AuduOgbeh has responded to his critics saying his decision to import improved grass seeds into the country to feed our animals is unchangeable.

Many media organizations except Food Farm News have reported the story of minister’s importation of grass from Brazil as against his earlier discussion  reported in our last January-Febuary edition that the FMARD would partner the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) in growing grass at a meeting held at the conference room of Raw Material Research Development Council (RMRDC).

During the press conference held at Sheraton organized by NiMet during the Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) the minister said that part of the impact of climate change changes was the cause of constant herdsmen and farmers’ clashes saying the time has come for the issue of cattle’s feeds to be seriously taken by way of growing nutritious and edible grasses adding that no criticism can revert this decision of importing improved seeds varieties for planting in the country.

Chief Ogbeh added that meaningful effort must be put in place to support the herdsmen from the habit of moving animals from one place to animals saying agricultural policy must also put them into consideration in order to avert the constant clashes between them and farmers.
