As part of efforts to boost crop production and subsequent food security, Katsina State government is set to embark on soil conditioning survey.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari who disclosed this during a media chat organised by the Katsina State Council of NUJ said the survey would assist in ascertaining what crop is suitable for a given area.

He expressed optimism that when successfully undertaken, the soil conditioning survey would assist farmers in determining what crop to plant in their respective areas.

Masari said agriculture which formed the mainstay of the economy of the state was being repositioned in line with the administration’s restoration agenda.

The governor who disclosed that concerted efforts are being made in ensuring post harvest process so as to guard against waste of farm produce said the state was working the the Zaria based National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT) for the establishment of a small scale tomato processing plant.

Fielding questions on his campaign promises, Masari said “the promises we made are dear to us and we remained committed to them” adding that “ we have a clear cut direction and we are headed the right way”.

He said the state had earmarked over N76 million to upgrade the state’s owned health institutions and expressed worry that all the health institutions currently have temporary accreditation.

Earlier in an address, the chairman of Katsina State Council of the NUJ said the media chat was organized to take the government to task on how far it has gone in fulfilling its campaign promises.

“The essence is to widen access to information and ultimately provide the citizens with all the needed information as far as the working of this government is concerned”.
