The recently elected president, Coffee Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria ( CPPMA) Mr. Hassan Usman has called for an enhanced coffee and tea productivity in Nigeria, describing the sub sector as a key opportunity for economic diversification, rural empowerment, and national industrial growth.
Speaking in an interview with Food Farm News shortly after his election victory, Usman emphasized that improving productivity across the coffee and tea industry would play a major role in boosting livelihoods and strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
He noted that countries such as Brazil, Kenya, and Uganda have successfully built strong income base around coffee and tea industry, adding this has enhanced their rural communities support to increase exports, and generate more stable foreign exchange earnings.
According to him, Nigeria has yet to fully tap into the potential of the sector “Countries like Brazil, Kenya, and Uganda depend so much on coffee and tea as a source of income. It is high time Nigeria also focuses on diversification, and coffee and tea should be a priority"
