We have done all needed, says shea butter president

The National Shea Products Association of Nigeria (NASPAN): Mohammed Ahmed Kontagora has commended the joint effort of the Federal Government ( FG) towards ensuring preservation of the Shea nuts for local productivity.

He made this statement while responding to a claim that a large quantity of shea nuts are getting spoilt in some farmers' storehouses.

He said the shea industry is getting better in collaboration with government agencies through implementation strategies aimed at salvaging the shortage of raw shea nuts availability to processors.

According to him, the partnership with the government is focused on strengthening the shea value chain, improving preservation methods, boosting production, and ensuring adequate supply of raw materials for processors and exporters.

“We have done all that is needed to be done, and that is why we are working closely with the government to help salvage the situation of insufficient raw shea nuts for processors to make use of ” said he

He promised the association would work on farmers' complaints on the deterioration of shea nut stores towards more available to local productivity.

“ In the case of farmers saying their nuts are getting spoilt in storage, we will further look into it just as we have done in the past" he added.
