FVP Heads Meeting of Agricultural Season Follow Up Higher Committee

The First Vice President of the Republic, Lt Gen Bakri Hassan Salih, on Sunday headed the meeting of the Agricultural Season Follow-Up Higher Committee which was attended by the Ministers of the economic sector and the governors of the states.

The meeting chaired by the Federal Prime Minister, Lt Gen Bakri Hassan Salih, focused on the outcome of the previous agricultural season and the achievement realized in the implementation of the five year programme with regards to the exports and the replacement of the imports.

The Minister for Agriculture, Dr Abdul Lateef Al Ijaimi pointed out in statements that the meeting reviewed the matrix set for the agricultural season which included the winter and summer seasons.

He said the said matrix included promotion of the agricultural timing as well as the required agricultural inputs and the policies envisaged for the season.

He added that it also included the programme prepared by the private sector for increasing the exports and the replacement of the imports.

He said it was decided in the meeting to form a subcommittee to follow up the agricultural season to be headed by the Chair of the Economic Sector at the Council of Ministers, Mubarak Al Fadil who is the Minister for Investment and includes in its members' the Ministers for Agriculture, the Minister for Electricity, the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Economic Planning as well as the Central Bank Governor and the Agricultural Bank.

The members also included development partners in the agricultural sector. The minister said he believes the coming agricultural season is promising given the full preparations in place in the irrigated schemes and the resolution of all challenges related to irrigation and improvement of the work in the rain fed sector.
