Audu Ogbeh |
The Federal Government is considering holding a public debate to set up commodity pricing board by 2017.
The
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, who
disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja explained the board was to
provide a minimum guaranteed price for crops, with the central aim of
protecting the interest of consumers.
Lamenting
the non-functionality of commodity pricing boards established few years
ago, the Minister expressed that the public debate would help to tackle
gaps experienced by the past boards.
“Commodity
boards were set up before but somehow, they did not work. The debate
now is that, do we go back to the commodity boards or not, but we will
arrive at something soon.
