Nigerians have been charged not to see agriculture as a development activity any longer but rather as business.

This was the opinion of the agriculture and rural development adviser to the Kogi State governor, John Apeh, who spoke during the national  flag-off/launch and distribution of African Development Bank inputs and equipment under the flood disaster relief support in Lokoja, the state capital.

He stressed that in the an effort to diversfy the economy, nations all over the world have gone back to farming which is the major economic mainstay of many of them, noting that the federal government has begun the rapid modernisation and mechanisation of the sector in a bid to make agriculture attractive.

Apeh urged Nigerians to start creating wealth from agriculture as it has the potential of providing jobs for Nigeria’s teaming graduates and for income generation. He also called on farmers in the country to be productive if they desire to be prosperous through farming, describing the present turn of event as a blessing that the state has promptly keyed into for food sufficiency and job creation.

On overcoming the present challenge posed by climate change, the adviser called for better planning, early release of seedlings and proactive measures that will help improve productivity.
