The Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) Sen. Abubarka Kyari has agreed to partner with NDLEA in redirecting farmers from planting cannabis.
Sen. Abubakar Kyari said the ministry would support cannabis farmers in transitioning to the cultivation of legal crops through the distribution of agro inputs.
This initiative was discussed during a meeting held at the FMAFS headquarters in Abuja between the Minister and the Chairman/CEO of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa ( Rtd).
Kyari pointed out that food and national security have a vital connection, saying that both were central pillars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister emphasized that addressing drug abuse is essential to sustaining peace, development, and economic growth.
Speaking, Marwa disclosed that cannabis was the most abused drug among users, saying that 10.6 out of 14.4 million were victims, adding that his agency had secured the backing of the United Nations Commission on fighting narcotic drugs through promotion of sustainable Agricultural alternatives to cannabis cultivation.
