World soil president promises more investment in Nigeria

As the world celebrates 2022 world soil day, the President, International Union of the Soil Scientists (IUSS), Professor Victor Chude has promised that Nigeria will experience more investments in soil management to achieve food security. Prof. Victor Chude said this in an exclusive interview with Food Farm News to mark the 2022 World soil day in Abuja last Monday, 5th December.

Chude said  there is need for Nigerian government to invest more into soil management in view of climate impact on soil management and productivity productivity in order to ensure more food harvest for security, saying the soil management had since been neglected without cares in many countries.

Chude said that “ With my appointment Nigeria will now be counted among nations in the world that has respect for soil through its inclusion in the policy agenda. This will enable her to participate with issues relating to soil and what happens to our soil worldwide.  We are currently leading the  entire country in policy decisions that relate to soil"

He said further that  time  has come for Nigeria to experience a positive change in soil management as there are lots of gains  through such investments that would result to  a positive change in the production of food across Africa.

Also speaking during an interview with journalists, the president of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN) Prof. Jibrin Jibrin aligned with the need for government to urgently embark on investment that would enhance soil management towards higher food productivity, adding that there are no enough good laboratory facilities for the country.

Jibrin stressed the need to create enough awareness about soil health management with testing laboratories across the country to cover all the local government councils and the universities.
