NISS trains ADPs on soil mobile application for food security


 The Nigerian Institute of Science (NISS) has trained a selected train the trainers extension agents on the use of Agro Mobile application device that will enhance best agronomic practices towards increased food production by farmers.


 This training took place yesterday at Merit house, Abuja where NISS coordinator for North Central, Prof. Akim Osunde expatiates on the need for farmers to be more exposed to modern farming techniques that will enhance commercial food productivity and security using the updated mobile farming application.


Prof. Osunde said that the training is essential to best agronomic practices as relevant information to best global agricultural practice through the use of upgraded agro mobile application is important for farmers update in global food production to achieve acceptable standard.


He added that the gap being created by insufficient extension officers has necessitated the use of this information device as a means of relating information about soil and other best uses of it to achieve maximum food production, saying the ratio of 1 extension agent to 1000 farmers is very poor and needs to be augmented with this new information farming device.


One of the participants, Kogi ADP, Mr. Isiaka Bilikisu, applauded the training, stressed the need for farmers to be well assisted with all necessary inputs without any further delay.


Also, the ADP representative from Nasarawa state, Umar Musa stated that the upgraded 2.0 version mobile application for soil and farming best global techniques was a reflection of Government much concern to meeting the need of farmers in terms extension services and other inputs provision/ information.


The NISS training in partnership with North Central ADP is meant to get farmers more informed on the soil application and other best agronomic practices that farmers need to know for maximum food production in the region.
