World experts call for soil management

In view of degradation occasioned by flood and other climate change vagaries, the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) has clamoured for management of soil by governments and other major stakeholders, being an element of food productivity for commercialization.

This was contained in a press release stating the activities line up for the year 2022 soil international day slated for 5th December, made available to us by the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) Registrar, Prof. Victor Chude.

The press release stated that ‘‘this year’s world soil day aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging governments, organizations, communities, individuals and societies around the world to commit proactively in improving soil health’’

Degradation in the statement was attributed to be one of the major challenges of soil efficacy to food nutrients saying that ‘’ With an understanding that soil nutrient loss is a major soil degradation process threatening nutrition and is among the most important problems at a global level for food security and sustainability’’

The theme for 2022 international soil day is ‘’ soil: where food begins’’ and NISS to this effect according to the statement is organizing series of event including ‘’ talk show on mass media, school projects, road walk and dialogue for policy maker on Monday 5th, December , 2022 at National press centre, Abuja.

  2. The strategic importance of soil preparation cannot be overemphasized. which is what is necessitation our Tractors/Irrigation Systems Hire Services for Nigeria covering Kano, Nasarawa and Enugu States to begin with. Our program also includes the provision of best seeds and treatments for clusters thousands of farmers. We see that if we had best soil preparation programs for our farmers, we would ensure healthier and more bountiful harvests at the end of the farming seasons.
