IAR to hold annual review meeting soon, says IAR boss

*Policy makers, farmers expected

As issues surrounding food security continue to linger coupled covid-19 pandemic disease, the Institute of Agriculture Research (IAR) through its boss, Prof.  Mohammed Ishiyaku has said that the annual review and planning meeting where improved technologies to checkmate drudgery and climate change challenges for robust food production would be soon held in April.

This was disclosed during a visit to the office of the Executive Director (ED) of the Institute of Agriculture Research (IAR) Samaru, Zaira, Prof.  Mohammed Ishiyaku.

                     

According to Ishiyaku ' We are organizing our Annual Review and Planning meeting in which we are inviting all our stakeholders farmers, policy makers including legislators and our partners to come and discus the direction of our research as it concerns to stakeholders and it is coming up early April’’

Ishiyaku added that farmers would be exposed to the newest method of controlling diseases and pest as well as the best performing new improved varieties of the Institute in crops like groundnut, Sorghum and maize, cowpea, cotton and Castor.

The Cropping Scheme Meeting and Research Extension Farmers Linkages System (REFILS) in an annual event where scientists in the North West geo political zone, and other invited scientists and farmers converge to review previous years’ agricultural activities in terms of field performance and productivity.

                      

It will be recalled that the same event could not hold last year (2020) because of the effect of covid-19 pandemic disease that restricted people’ movement and forbid gathering of people as a result of social distancing protocol.
