Agro dealers ready for protest

The Growth Enhancement Scheme Agro-dealers Association of Nigeria (GESAAN) is ready to stage a third protest in Abuja over N29 billion owed its members by the Federal Government, which has remained unpaid since 2014. A reliable source disclosed this to Food farm news, in Abuja.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the protest should be expected any moment from now, as members of the association were already arriving the federal capital for the match.
The source noted that the protest became necessary since the federal government was not fulfilling its promises to the members, thereby making them miss out on various opportunities that would have fetched them more money because they are not being able to restock their stores.
She added that the failure of the system to pay them is assumed to be a plot by the federal government to end the scheme.
The national chairman of the association, Kabiru Fara, told Food farm news in a telephone chat that the planned protest was on hold for now as there was hope that they would be paid by next week.
He said members of the association have suffered untold hardships over the nonpayment saying “a total sum of N29billion has remained unpaid to date for the supply of fertilizers, seeds and other inputs by the past administration in 2014, while the sum of about N9.8billion is also being owed for recent distribution made for the 2016/2017 dry season farming.”
