Maize farmers urge FG to address price crisis

The Secretary General (SG), Maize Association of Nigeria ( MAN), Mr. Bamidele Ayeni has called on the Federal Government ( FG) to speedify action that will address unstable prices of maize in Nigeria.

Speaking during an engagement with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) officials, Ayeni said his members are facing a very serious unpredictable prices of maize that could hinder cultivations in 2026.

According to him, maize farmers are currently facing serious pricing challenges that may discourage production in the coming planting season, just as he suggested the revival of national grains reserve.

He also suggested silos that will allow farmers to store a ton of grains towards a premium time, adding that the bring back of Guaranteed Minimum Price (GMP) with bench mark price at the beginning of farming season would help to guide farmers.
