The Federal Government ( FG) has formed a technical committee across ministries to reposition agro-industrial zones for better food system productivity.
This was contained in a statement made available to the media yesterday by the head of the Department of Information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS), Mr Ezeaja Ikemefuna.
The statement announced that the committee inauguration ceremony was held at the conference room of the FMAFS, and presided over by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi.
Dr. Ogunbiyi, in the press release, said that the SAPZ programme is a strategic initiative aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential through the development of integrated agro-industrial clusters towards enhanced food sustainable productivity.
He went further to say, " These clusters will link farmers to processors, markets, and industries via modern infrastructure and value chains.
“The establishment of this committee is crucial to ensuring synergy among key stakeholders, guiding implementation strategies, and maintaining accountability throughout the life of the programme.”
The committee's Terms of Reference include:
Providing technical guidance on implementation strategies,
Identifying and addressing technical gaps, aligning sectoral policies and programmes with SAPZ objectives, supporting monitoring, evaluation, and reporting mechanisms for transparency and impact.
The PS in the press release urged members to approach their assignment with commitment and a collaborative spirit, noting that “Together, we can make the SAPZ Programme a model for agricultural transformation and sustainable economic development in Nigeria "
