NIHORT set to host 2nd global conference on Okro


Nigeria being the 2nd largest producer of okro in the world cum first in Africa will by this week Wednesday tomorrow holds the global conference on okro, while the event will be immediately followed by the valedictory lecture mainly dedicated to Dr. O. Olajide Taiwo as part of his retirement.

Already, participants for the Okro international conference from India have arrived in Nigeria yesterday as Food Farms News took their pictures together with the Executive Director, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Attanda of National Horticultural Research Institute ( NIHORT) in his office.

The global conference which is going to be the second after the first that was held in India is meant to have a round table discussions on better Okro productivity through the value chains system with improved technologies adaptable to the ecosystem and climate change challenges.

The conference is also expected to have in attendance the two Ministers,  Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) with other stakeholders that will brainstorm on the way forward for the produce in view of the larger population of people that consume Okro all over the globe.

Also, in the same venue, Dr. Olajide Taiwo will be delivering his valedictory lecture titled " Enhancing Horticultural Extension Research for Development in Nigeria: Addressing Intricacies and Intrigues" towards his retirement. 

All the event will take place at the main auditorium of NIHORT as the ED, Prof Attanda will be there to welcome all the invited guests.
