Free School Feeding in Kaduna |
Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has launched the Free School Feeding Programme in the state.
In a brief ceremony to mark the launch of the Kaduna School Feeding Programme yesterday, he tasted the food himself, thus assuring the populace of its safety and hygiene, The Leadership reports.
The programme was launched at the Aliyu Makama Road Primary School, Barnawa, and the state government has said it will provide meals for 1.5million pupils across all primary schools in the state. He noted that the school feeding is to ensure that every child has nine years of free, decent basic education, no matter the income level of their parents.
The Governor thanked Vice-President’s Office for providing technical support and the commitment to reimburse the Kaduna State government up to 60 per cent of the cost of the school feeding programme.
He said the school feeding programme is directly creating 17, 000 jobs for catering vendors, each of whom will need to employ workers to help them deliver food to the pupils.
El-Rufai noted that the school feeding programme would save parents break-time money, empower the women within the community who have been selected as catering vendors and expand the market for farm products. He expressed commitment to fix the more than 4000 public primary schools in the state, and transform them into conducive places for the delivery of quality education. “We will strive to complete the rehabilitation within our term of office,” he said.
