Cattle Breeders |
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of
Nigeria (MACBAN) has said it will introduce weight bill for transporters
carrying cattle, as a major way of checking cattle theft, reports the
Guardian.
The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, who confirmed this to newsmen on Sunday in Yola, said most of the stolen cattle from its members were transported in trucks to markets and abattoirs across the country. He said the introduction of the Weight Bill to be issued at approved loading and downloading points would be done in collaboration with National Union of Road Transport Workers and other stakeholders.
Kiruwa said the implementation of the programme would commence within the first quarter of this year, and urged all members and stakeholders to give the programme maximum support.
The national chairman was in Adamawa in the course of his nationwide tour to meet members and sister unions. He said that the union wanted to bring all members under one umbrella for a united front to contain the challenges facing cattle breeders nationwide.
