Empowered women and an enriched community – the groundnut story of northern Nigeria

Mrs. Hadja Talatu Idrissa of Bunkure, near Kano, Nigeria, is the leader of a 25-women group in groundnut production and processing. They began to get involved into the Tropical Legumes III (TL III) project four years ago with a small seed pack of 5 kg in their community farmland. From the harvest of this crop, they planted in a bigger farm plot the following year.

Saudi Arabia's state grain buyer, the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO), said on Sunday that it had approved the purchase of a maximum of 700,000 tonnes of wheat annually from local farmers for five years.

Japanese rice market affected by trade pacts

Japan’s conclusion of a free trade agreement with the European Union and efforts to conclude the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) are expected to increase market competition for U.S. rice exports to Japan, according to a July 6 Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
