ATASP supports Nigeria wheat production with improved seeds, says Nat. Coordinator

The office of Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program Phase 1 ( ATASP-1) has released 2, 500 metric of improved wheat seed variety to support the expansion of the produce in Nigeria.

The National Coordinator, ATASP-1, Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Arabi disclosed this to Food Farm News on Monday in his office at Abuja. 

Dr. Ibrahim Arabi said that his office has assisted the wheat expansion growth of Nigeria with 2, 500 metric tons of heat tolerant wheat called ( Boulug 100) which had already been delivered to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) for deployment into 2024-25 dry season farming using electronic process of National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro Pocket ( NAGS-AP) distribution system to get to the redemption centres of each participating states. 

The National Coordinator pointed out that the need for the heat tolerant wheat has become necessary in view of climate change challenges, and in order to ensure good harvest for our farmers and more economic gains.

 Also he pointed that his office has completed delivery of the agricultural inputs to Adani- Omor Staple Crops Processing Zones ( SCPZs) of Enugu/Anambra states in the last rainy season, saying that about 12,000 farmers were given inputs at 75% subsidy. " The inputs included two bags of inorganic fertilizers NPK & urea, one bag of organic fertilizer, and four liter of agro chemical at 10kg of improved seeds" said Arabi.
