The Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN) has conducted an election that emerged Engineer Mahmoud Mahmoud as the President of Pepper Producers, Processors and Marketers Association, and Shetima Hassan Ibrahim as Deputy President with six other Vice President (VP) from each geo-political zones of country as officers.
Among the six Vice Presidents elected were Mohammed Abba Umar, North-East, Hon. Okon Etim Okon, South-South, Musa Garba, North-West, Danjuma Sylvester Bunshak, North-Central, Ofoegbu Raphel Chima, South-East, and Dapo Ali for South-West.
The post of National Treasurer was won by Samuel Okeboh while Mr. Oliva Eriri was elected as National Secretary, Financial Secretary Alitu Musa, just as both Adah Halilu and Ahmed Umar Turaki for Organizing secretary and Assistant Organizing Secretary respectively. Tyefu Adobe emerged as the National Public Relation with Howard Usen as the Assistant and Okafor Peace Chinwe as the Legal Adviser of the Association.
Engineer Mahmoud in his chat with Food Farm News promised a proactive repositioning of pepper productivity in Nigeria saying the association would harness all the economic potentials in the sub sector locally and internationally to create wealth for the members and the entire country by making pepper a dollar earning commodity.
The President urged the government to give more support to pepper productivity as this was part of its promise to industrialize the country using the non-oil sector of agriculture. He acknowledged that much is expected from his association while he promised to tap from FACAN wealth of experience to ensure success being an umbrella body.
The General Secretary of FACAN, Dr. Nuhu Dogondagi assured the appointed officers of their certification before inauguration to make them more legal added that his association as a parent body has certified the election free and fair following the constitution saying no other association would be allowed to register with this name as soon as all documentation is completed.
He further urged the newly appointees to ensure team work so as to achieve the overall objective of the association in Nigeria, pointing that more sensitization will be done to strategically position the chille products for local and international markets as Nigeria currently produces one of the best pepper in the world.
