NEPC targets non-rejection of Nigeria’s exports

It’s no secret that food loss and food waste are big problems. At least 1.3 billion tons of food is lost or wasted every year—in fields, during transport, in storage, at restaurants, and in markets in industrialized and developed countries alike. In rich countries alone, some 222 million tons of food is wasted, which is almost as much as the entire net food production of sub-Saharan Africa. And according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), wasted food costs some US$680 billion in industrialized countries and US$310 billion in developing countries.

75,000 wheat farmers in Kano to benefit from CBN’s loan scheme

Not less than 75,000 wheat farmers under the aegis of Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria (WFAN) in Kano State are to benefit from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) anchored borrowers programme.
The registration of farmers for this programme has commenced and beneficiaries are expected to use the loan to cultivate the commodity throughout this year’s dry season.

New Bill in Congress Dispels Consumer Confusion Surrounding Food Labels

 Americans are unnecessarily discarding food because of confusion surrounding food date labels. At the same time, millions of U.S. citizens are affected by hunger. 

A national survey, conducted by the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic, found that 84 percent of consumers throw away food that is close to or past the date displayed on the label, and this disposal is often unnecessary. Currently, food date labeling is not federally regulated in the United States.
