As a means of developing the Nigerian agriculture sector
through the provision of favourable policies and work plan, the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) has shown interest in partnering with the
Federated Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN). This was made known by the
National Secretary, FACAN, Dr. Bello Nuhu Dogondaji in Abuja.

NPPAN chooses new election date
National
Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) has slated August 28 and 29, 2019 for
board members’ meeting and the election into executive posts of the association.
The President of the association, Engr. Henry Oladunjoye told food farm news in
Abuja.
New National Cashew President promises repositioning

of Nigeria (NCAN) Hon. Ojo Joseph Ajanaku has promised to reposition the
association with strategic mechanism to regulate the produce in the market.

Industry ministry wants transparency of commodity associations
The Federal
Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment (FMITI) has advised the major
commodity associations registered under it to be more proactive and transparent
in their dealings so as to enhance more government support with detailed record
of accountability in all ramifications. The Director, Commodity Products
Inspectorate in the ministry, Mrs. Opelolu Opewe gave the advice during an
interface session with major agricultural commodity associations in Abuja.

Demand for Nigerian produce soars in Brazil, says FACAN representative
Brazilians at the recently concluded trade fair held at
Novotel Hotel, Sao Paulo Brazil rushed at buying all the Nigerian agricultural
processed products at the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of
Nigeria stand where products like shea butter, ginger, turmeric, castor and
others were all bought because of their health uses.

The National
President, Federation of Commodities Agriculture Association of Nigeria
(FACAN), Dr. Victor Iyama has resounded that the recapitalization of Bank of
Agriculture (BOA) would put an end to challenges facing the financing of
farmers in Nigeria while the President of Cassava Growers Association of
Nigeria, Pastor Segun Adewunmi canvassed for the use of land as collateral for loan
with and other properties for commercial banks for effective agricultural
business.

FOREX: Agric exporters ready for litigation- FACAN President

The Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN) policy of Foreign Exchange (FOREX) market initiated by its
Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele has again received another attack from the
President of Federation of Agricultural Commodities of Nigeria (FACAN) Dr.
Victor Iyama who had severally said the policy was rather retrogressive to the
development of agriculture in terms of market frontier expansion and revenue
generation saying they will not hesitate to take legal action if the policy is
not revised to Prof. Soludo’s policy of 2006.
