Minister Condemns farmers' killing, Calls for stronger security

 

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari has condemned the killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno state by suspected terrorists.

Kyari, in a statement issued on Sunday, described the killing as tragic and deeply disturbing, noting that the victims were working on their farms to earn a living before their lives were cut short while trying to contribute to the Nigeria’s food production.

The minister in the statement expressed condolences to the affected families in Marte local government, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the entire people of the state.

He prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls, and asked for the comfort of the bereaved families.

Sen. Kyari in the statement also advocated for the protection of farmers in order to ensure food security in the Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to creating a safer environment where farmers can cultivate their land without fear towards ensuring national food security.

The minister further called for efforts to locate the three people reportedly said to be  missing following the incident.

Kyari said the Federal Government remained committed to protecting farmers and rural communities, stressing that the safety of agricultural workers was essential to sustaining food production and strengthening Nigeria’s food security.
