Food Security: ActionAids says GDP growth has no impact on farmers' pockets

The Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Mamedu has challenged the propensity of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth on the lives of rural communities, particularly farmers, saying the report's impact has not positively impacted on people' livelihood.

This opposite stance of ActionAid Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Mamedu, against the 4.2% GDP growth by World Bank report was coming on the heels of the downtrodden people, especially farmers were not seeing the positive impacts in their livelihood and pockets.

Mamedu advised Nigeria's government to embrace economic growth that will enhance the disposable income of farmers with access to food, education, transportation and healthcare care delivery. He said in the report that " When revenues rise, but families cannot afford food, transportation, health care and education, we must ask who benefits from that growth.

The true measure of economic progress is not how much money government generates, but how many Nigerians are lifted out of the poverty"
