FG opens talk on tractors distribution to 774 LGA

 

The Federal Government ( FG) is planning a modality of how tractors utilization at the 774 local government areas would be deployed to farming activities with a solid financial sustainable pay back strategy involving a Kano based agro limited company.

In a press release made available by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Department of Information, headed by Mr. Ezeaja Ikemefuna, it was stated that the FG was already in talks with this agro limited company based in Kano to facilitate the possible financial sustainability strategies of ensuring grassroot mechanization in the 774 LGA's with regular financial repayment.

This according to the press release was aimed at equipping every region of the country with tractors across the 774 council areas, thereby easing usually upfront cost being experienced by rural farmers.

The statement reported that the Minister of Agriculture, Sen.Abubakar Kyari had said this when representing the Vice President, Kashim Shettima at a function where Afott Grains- Sesame and Grains processing facility was being commissioned in kawakin Tofa local government area, Kano.

The statement added that " production must be matched with processing. Mechanization must be matched with financing. Policy must be matched with private- sector confidence and long term investment"

The commissioned facility according to Mr. Navin Chanri would produce 40,000;tons of sesame seeds and 25,000 tons of other grain annually.
